What is Black?

Black is ash
From after a fire
Black is oil
Being used in a machine
Black is darkness
Fear as well
Black is death
Black is the colour of ink
Black is a shadow
That stalks you
Black is emptyness
Tht fills your inside
Black is space
Without any colour
Black is a secret
That nobody can find
Black is anger
That you can't release

Harry Potter

School holidays are almost over, the kidlets return to school on Monday morning.

On Friday my sister & I took them down to Sydney to see the Harry Potter exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum.

No photography allowed inside the exhibition unfortunately, but we found these huge posters outside & took photos of the kids in front of them.

Niamh looks like she's about to have a duel with Harry in this shot.

And Connor looks like he has a wand to head, he should look a bit more worried about that.

Love this one - my sister took this shot of Row while I was taking a photo of Niamh behind them.

I've always wanted to try riding a penny farthing, but this is the closest I've ever got.

Working Class Anthem

Belatedly remembered that I always put up something Australian on Australia Day. So for today, I'm recycling something I had on my old blog - Adam Hills version of the national anthem. I don't think anyone hearing this version would disagree that this is how the anthem should be song.

Update

I tend not to put anything personal up on a public blog, I'm just not the type of personal who will share that type of information. But I've neglected both this blog and the blogs I normally read for months, so I thought I'd give a brief rundown of what has been happening in my life.

I separated from my husband last year, and things got a bit stressful with the end of the that relationship, making arrangements for the children and arrangements for buying out the house and everything else. That was when I shut down my old blog & started this one, for my new life.

But I was too busy with everything happening to actually update the blog frequently, and a lot of the stuff happening was private. I also stopped reading most of the blogs on my google reader. Ones I really enjoyed I kept reading when I could find the time, but I stopped commenting.

I've been seeing someone and was happier than I've been in years. Didn't have any more time for blog updating or reading, but I was happy and busy planning a new life with the man I loved. I thought we had the rest of our lives together, we seemed so perfectly matched.

Last night that all finished, he walked out on me and won't be back. I have to start pulling my life back together after the complete devastation. I know I can be strong enough to do it, even if at the moment I'm mostly spending my time crying, but I won't be online much. I'm not sure if I will ever return to this blog, but I won't close it at the moment.

Halloween

So I'm a week late, it takes me that much time to download photos from my phone!

For years I've seen pictures of cool carved pumpkins on US blogs & always wanted to try it. This year for the first time, the large orange pumpkins were available in supermarkets here.

So last Saturday I acquired a pumpkin and the Fig child & I got started with the carving. Scooping out all the seeds & innards was messym, but the actual carving was easy & fun. We're very happy with our first time efforts :-).

The Imp's cub pack had a halloween themed night Monday & they were requested to come in costume. Imp borrowed her brother's skeleton suit, and I added the makeup. It was meant to be skull makeup, but ended up more zombie like. Imp won a prize for best costume - some of the others had the same skeleton suit, but she was the only one with face paint.

First run in a week

My normal running track - around the local cemetary

After a week of laziness I went out for a run this morning. Beautiful weather - sun had just come up, it was about 15 deg C, no wind or rain.

Run details:
Total distance: 3.21 km
Total time: 28:24 min

But I know I walked for 6 minutes, for 0.57 km as a warmup & stretched for 3 minutes, so:
Run distance: 2.64 km
Run time: 19:24 mins

A very bored looking angel

Thought I'd add some pictures of where I usually run. I normally walk up the road to warmup, until I get to a convenient lightpost to stretch against. Then I run back to the cemetary & run on the tracks around there. Sometimes I'll also go on the bush tracks that go out from the cemetary. But only if it hasn't been raining, and if it's not dark - those tracks can get slippery.
